How to add months, week or year to a date in excel (The simplest way)

If you started a project on a certain date which is eight months long and you are supposed to keep monthly tabs such as paying bills or sending invoice for that project. So you might want to know monthly intervals for eight months regarding that date. So instead of manually adding months, excel can help you. you can use a single date and keep on adding months in excel in increment of one for your desired period of time. That way you will have a list of dates from a single date, each being one month apart. you can choose any other number for adding month, excel will add your desired number to single date.

Here are the tutorials on how you can use excel to add months, week or years to a date. All the tutorials use the excel fill feature.

How to add months in excel to a single date

Here is the stepwise guide on how to have a series of dates at particular interval by adding months in excel.

Write the starting date in a blank cell.

1.Select a range of cells where you want to display the incremented dates. Range of cells corresponds to how many incremented dates you want.Select home tab and then fill followed by series option.

2.Now you will have a dialog box. Select date from type and month from date unit.Write the number to increment to your date in step value and select OK. Here I am using 3 as a step up value as I want to keep adding months in excel in increment of three.

3.This should display the dates with increment of three months.

How to add days to date

If you want to have a list of dates from a single date with increment of particular days, here is the stepwise guide for you.

Write the starting date in a blank cell.Select a range of cells where you want to display the date with incremented days.

1.Select home tab and then fill followed by series option.

2.Now you will have a dialog box. Select date from type and days from date unit.Write the number to increment to your date in step up value. Here I am using 2 as step up value. This should display the dates which are two days apart.


How to add years to date

1.Here is the stepwise guide on how to use excel to add years to date.

2.Write the starting date in a blank cell.

3,highlight range of cells where you want to display the date with incremented years.

4.Select home tab and then fill followed by series option.Now you will have a dialog box. Select date from type and years from date unit.

5.Write the number to increment to your date in step value. Here I have used 1 as step up value.This should display the dates, all one year apart from each other.
