How to Add Name Box in Excel (The Easiest Way)

You might not have given much mind to the Name Box in Excel, a modest little box at the top of your Excel worksheet, but it has an impressive variety of applications. The box, which is located next to the formula bar, often shows the address of the cell you are now in.

The Name Box in Excel has several functions.

  1. It displays the address of the active cell.

  1. It displays the name of the cell, range or object selected if this has been named.

  1. It can be used to name a cell, range or object like a chart.

  1. It can be used to go to any address you type into it.

  1. It contains a drop down list of all named cells and ranges and can be used to go to any of them.

ACTIVE CELL ADDRESS:

Any selected cell's address is shown.

Where row 4 and column B meet, choose cell B4.

The Name Box in Excel has the value B4.

You may give names to cells, ranges, and other objects in Excel, including charts. When these things are selected and given names, the names will show up in the name field rather than a general address like B4.

  1. When Cell F1 is chosen, the Name Box in Excel displays the name Tax Rate, which is the name of the cell.

  1. When B4:E7 is chosen, the Name Box in Excel displays the name Purchases for the Range B4:E7. If only a portion of the range is chosen, the name is not displayed.

  1. When the chart is selected, the Name Box in Excel displays the name Purchase Chart, which has been given to the chart.

Using the Name Box in Excel is the simplest way to give a cell, range, or object a name, such as a chart. Enter a name into the Name Box after selecting your cell, range, or object and pressing Enter on the keyboard.

  1. Spaces are prohibited in names.

  2. A letter, an underscore, or a backslash must come first in names.

  3. Additional than underscores, backslashes, and periods, names cannot include other symbols.

  4. The length of names is limited to 255 characters.

ANY CELL IN THE WORKSHEET MAY BE REACHED BY USING THE NAME BOX AS WELL.

  1. Excel will move the current cell pointer to cell A1 once you enter A1 in the Name Box and press Enter.

  2. Enter Sheet3 in the search box!

  3. Enter cell C8 into the Name Box in Excel, and Excel will move the active cell pointer to cell C8 on Sheet2 of the worksheet.

VIEW A NAME BOX OF EACH WORKBOOK'S NAMED CELLS AND RANGES.

In the Name Box's right side, choose the little down arrow.

The names will then be listed alphabetically. Please take note that the listing does not contain the names of things like charts. To access the relevant cell or range, click any of the names from the name box.
