Inserting a one-page PDF is pretty simple, but inserting a multi-page PDF is more complicated. PDF documents should be inserted as Objects, and an Object cannot span more than one page. Multi-page PDFs must be divided into one-page PDFs and each page put separately. Alternatively, each page may be turned to an image and then added separately. The former can be accomplished with WPS PDF Reader (free) or the full version of WPS Office, although the process is pretty same. Converting a PDF to multiple one page images can only be accomplished with the full version of WPS Office PDF editor.

1. How To Insert PDF into MS Word

To easily insert a PDF file into your Word file, insert a PDF file as an object. By doing so, the PDF becomes an integral part of the Word document. This means  any changes made to the source PDF file will not be recorded in the embedded  PDF in the Word page, unless you connect embedded PDF to the source file.

Steps To Insert a PDF

  • Open the Word document where you wanna insert PDF and position your cursor where you want the PDF file. Then, click the Insert button.

  • After that, select Object from the Text group. There will be a brief drop-down menu. Choose Object from the drop-down list.

  • The Object window will now be shown. Select Browse after clicking the Create From File tab. Click on “create from file” and browse for your pdf file in explorer. Navigate to the PDF's location, select it, and then click Insert.

  • You must now choose whether to (1) link directly to the source file and/or (2) show the PDF as an icon. If you want the inserted PDF file to reflect any new changes made to the source file, linking directly to it is a smart idea. If this is your objective, be sure you enable this option.

  • When you're satisfied, click OK.

If you don't want to take up too much space on the page (Word file), display the PDF as an icon. Not enabling any of these options will display the PDF in its entirety on the Word doc and won’t reflect any new changes made to the source file.

How To insert a multi-page PDF to Word?

Each page of the original PDF must be saved as a separate PDF file.

  • Open the PDF in a PDF viewer (such as WPS Office's PDF Editor), then pick Print and Print to PDF as your printer OR Save As PDF OR Export As PDF.

  • Then, under Pages settings, pick the text box option beneath All and enter 1 before clicking Print.

  • Choose a place to save the page to, then repeat the process, substituting 1 with 2, 3, and so on, until you've saved all of the individual pages you require.

How To insert PDF into Word using WPS Office

Inserting a PDF using WPS Office is almost similar to that of MS Office Word editor. Here’s how;

  • Open the Word file in WPS Writer in which you are willing to insert a PDF. 

  • From the “Insert” tab, select “Object” or “text from file” from the text group menu.

  • Mark the “all file formats” option to browse and locate the PDF file and press “OK”.

  • Pressing OK will place the PDF in Word document. You can also edit this PDF if you have saved the Word file on drive.
